About Thyme Out Torbay

We are a family owned cafe that supports the community by providing a safe space for those with mental health and the people who support them.

We build relationships with organisations within the community and we are enormously committed in making people feel welcome and reassure them that they are not alone and isolated.

Thyme Out is a place where children are welcome.  You can relax and enjoy what we have to offer whilst your little ones enjoy the safe space of our lovely play area.

Dogs are welcome too and can even partake in having a doggy ice cream along with their owners.

Thyme Out Torbay wanted to dedicate time in helping the local community discover our safe place. Mental health is important to us as it is close to our hearts with myself the owner and most of the staff that have worked and currently work here.

The reason why mental health is important to us is because of personal experiences and seeing how mental can affect someone and those around them.

It is fantastic that it is now spoken about and we are able to hold events like Thyme Out Talks and we will in continue to do so to show that with support, people can manage their mental health and those around them are able to get the information they need in order to support them.

Thyme out recently became a Community Interest Company which is a non for profit organisation. The reason is because I wanted to dedicate time in helping the local community discover our safe place. Mental health is important to Thyme Out as it is close to our hearts with myself the owner and most of the staff that have worked and currently work here.

We want to strive to build relationships with organisations within the community and we are enormously committed in making people feel welcome and reassure them that they are not alone and isolated.

The reason why mental health is important to us is because personally I have had first-hand experience seeing how mental can affect someone and those around them. My daughter has ongoing anxiety and diagnosed around 7 years ago, mental health was not talked about. It took quite a while for us to know her diagnosis and if it wasn’t for counselling and my own need for information it would have been a very difficult road for us both. I cannot underestimate the need for support and awareness as back then there was very little.

Even though the amount of support available wasn’t a lot back then, the counselling that my daughter received allowed her to manage and move forward with her life. Its fantastic that it is now spoken about and we are able to hold events like Thyme Out has and will in continue to do in the future, to show that with support, people can manage their mental health and those around them are able to get the information they need in order to support them.

Aside from myself, the staff here at Thyme Out Torbay have had their own experiences with mental health and in turn are all so enthusiastic about our path into supporting the community.

Thyme Out Torbay is a great space for just a relax, meetings, just a place to talk.  We also have board games if you just want to sit.  We have a regular support group meet on Thursday called Thyme Out Talks, this is in conjunction with the organisation Safe Place & Support for Supporters.

Thyme Out Torbay  is proud to be a member of the Recycle Devon refill scheme, offering free tap water refills to anyone who pops in and asks. All straws and cups used are biodegradable while glass, cardboard, plastic and food waste is recycled – including coffee grounds which are offered to our customers to take for their gardens.
